This custom-built home has had three owners, all of which have lovingly maintained and updated it though the years. A well laid out and large floor plan that offers private guest quarters too! An equipped home, with solar hot water heater, automatic whole-house fans and fully owned, net metered photovoltaic system.

As you enter through the foyer, a large living room sits at the front of the home with a built-in bookcase. It's full of light and ventilation from windows that overlook the front garden. High vaulted ceilings span the living room, over the kitchen and above the guest suite.

A spacious kitchen with bar and dining area sits at the center of this wing. Enjoy all the storage one could ask for in this lovely kitchen with pantry and interior laundry. Beautifully updated with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and a large island, it is a great space for entertaining or feeding a large family. Beyond the kitchen, step into the sunken family room which opens to the covered patios and bonus hobby room. Like the living room, the family room is full of windows for natural light and updated laminate flooring. Upstairs from the family room and with private exterior entrance, you'll find the spacious guest suite. This area features a wet bar, large walk-in closet, full bath, office area and covered lanai from which you can watch the cruise ships on the ocean horizon.

Downstairs, on the opposite wing of the home, there are three bedrooms and two more bathrooms. The master bedroom was expanded to create a sitting/sewing area. It also has a very large, organized, walk-in closet, walk-in shower, built-in vanity and access to the back yard. The rear yard is fully fenced and accessible by large vehicle and passage gates. A fourth bathroom is conveniently located between the garage and outside patio near the hobby room or workshop. Additional storage can be found in the garage, which has closet space and pull down stair access to the attic.

South Hilo

Hilo town, the hub of the South and North Hilo districts, was once a thriving port for the sugar cane industry. Today it is the Hawaii County Seat and home of the island's major state and federal offices, a modern international airport, Hilo Medical Center, the University of Hawaii-Hilo, and state-of-the-art Imiloa Astronomy Center.

Although Hilo is not an incorporated city, it is the second-largest population center in the state with over 40,000 residents according to the 2000 census. Hilo also has an array of commerce and entertainment offerings--boutiques and galleries, big box stores, restaurants, museums, and several hotels.

The historic Bayfront area, though impacted by major tsunamis in 1946 and 1960, is still a center of economic and cultural activity, including a weekly farmers market, Palace Theatre events and the annual Black & White Night, Merrie Monarch, and Ho'olaule'a festivals.

Embracing the town's reputation as "the rainiest city in America", Hilo residents have a certain pride about East Hawaii's weather and enjoy a different flavor of Hawaii life than their neighbors on the dry west side. The Big Island’s famed greenery, tropical fruits and flowers, trees, ferns, forests, and farms all require reliable rainfall to thrive. Water is so important to life in Hawaii that waiwai (the word for "water", doubled) translates as "assets, valuable, wealth, rich, worth and benefit."

As is true for much of the Big Island, Hilo real estate is a mixed market, with upscale custom homes and fixer-upper "opportunity" properties, condos, vacation residences, private estates and oceanfront property. A knowledgeable Clark Realty agent can guide you to the best Hilo property for your needs.
