Kololia's Garden, a place of beauty, a botanical paradise created with love to soothe the soul. Almost oceanfront, with ocean views, this original plantation home has been largely rebuilt with multiple renovations, additions, and transformations to become what it now is with an effective age of 6 yrs. The main house has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. The well appointed custom kitchen features a dishwasher, disposal, range, microwave hood and wine cooler. The large covered lanai outside the formal dining room has a second dishwasher and mini fridge. But wait, at the far end of the lanai is the detached 4th bedroom wing. This space has a large bedroom, with room for a sitting area. The ensuite bathroom spares little attention to detail. The large custom shower could easily be converted into a handicapable accessible shower. This wing features a kitchenette with fridge, microwave and toaster oven. There is a second bathroom here, allowing this area to function almost like an ohana unit. There is a laundry and ample storage found off the garage.

The home has new plantation style blinds. Attention to detail is found throughout, from the crown molding details to the closets having custom built ins. The cabinets, counter tops, flooring, windows, window treatments, den are all newer. The home borders a stream where a waterfall gently cascades along the property. Multiple gazebos create convenient places to rest and rejuvenate. The jetted spa overlooks the lagoon style wading pool with beach entrance. There is a picnic, bbq area as well as accessory sheds for the tractor and equipment.

The manicured lawn and gardens are a feast for the eyes. The fruit trees include bananas, oranges, meyer lemons, Surinam cherry, passion fruit and pineapples. The fully fenced yard even has a dog run area.

Home currently operates as a successful vacation rental. The two distinct living spaces lend themselves to multiple family living options.

North Hilo

Know for nearly ideal tropical weather, stunning cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean and vast expanses of hardwood forests, the North Hilo district on the Big Island's Hamakua Coast is home to several small communities, including Ninole, Papaaloa, Laupahoehoe and Ookala.

Here, historic plantation villages lie nestled among large expanses of agricultural and forested lands. This is a place where residents enjoy country living, but can also take advantage of North Hilo's close proximity to Hilo town.

Those least familiar with North Hilo likely know the stretch of Hawaii Belt Road that runs through the district for the three dramatic gulches that define this section of the Hamakua Coast drive: Maulua Gulch, Laupahoehoe Gulch and Kaawalii Gulch. Those more familiar with the district are acquainted with its rich history, including its deep roots in the sugar plantation era, traces of which are still very evident today.

A significant amount of land in this area is zoned as either agricultural or "forest reserve" conservation land. In some cases, residential properties are located adjacent to expansive forests of prized Koa or Ohia trees. As with the rest of the Big Island, this is a place where both plantation-style village homes and multi-million dollar estates are common offerings among listings for sale.

Our agents know this area well and have great respect for the heritage of the community. Working with a knowledgable Clark Realty agent will help those interested in Hamakua Coast real estate successfully navigate the ins and outs of rural Big Island real estate.
