Eclectic Wood Valley! Just minutes from the Buddhist Temple, this lovely cottage is situated privately behind a bamboo fence on over two acres. From first glance you will feel like you are in rural Japan or Southeast Asia. Wood and glass is your first impression as you enter the home. The redwood/cedar construction, oak parquet and tile flooring plus all the glass doors and screened in window openings are a complement to the location. Large covered lanais surround home with both open and screened in areas. One section creates a lovely sleeping porch where you can enjoy the cool breezes at the back of the valley, the quiet at night or the birds in the morning. This area is large enough to also accommodate a sitting or dining area overlooking your orchard. Use a shoji screen for more privacy in sleeping area if you want. There are about 560 sf of screened in deck and 360 sf of open wrap around decks which help expand the 480 sf living area into a lovely island style feel.
Large glass doors in the Great Room open on 3 sides of the living area onto the covered decks. The cottage has a very indoor/outdoor feel with good air flow and natural light.
A sleeping loft over the living area provides a private getaway too. Home is serviced by private water from Wood Valley Water Company. There is also a catchment tank to use for irrigating if necessary. The canopy carport is included in sale. A list of fruit varieties is attached at tool bar. Basic furniture is included or can be negotiated separately.
Such a peaceful and private retreat from the hustle and bustle. Come to Wood Valley and experience the physical and spiritual renewal available in this one of a kind Hawaiian retreat. You will gain strength to go back and face the world or you just might decide to stay longer to roast your coffee, pick your fruit and start a garden in this slice of paradise!

Kau

When the first Hawaiians migrated north, South Point at the foot of Mauna Loa is likely the first land they saw from their double-hulled voyaging canoes. The Ka'u coastline is truly a majestic sight.

The Ka'u district, which is the southernmost area of the Big Island and the southernmost tip of the U.S, is still a real estate frontier. This is largest district in the State, but the least populated. At its northern boundary lies Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, undeniably volcano goddess Pele’s domain. Dominating the landscape along the coast are black sand beaches and mile after mile of stark lava landscape where forests of ohi'a and a variety of small farms and orchards are flourishing.

Home to several large rural subdivisions created by real estate developers in the mid-1900s as well as historic and culturally significant small villages, Ka'u embraces a very diverse population, many of whom are committed to "keeping country country." Recent proposed resort developments have met with strong community resistance, giving rise to active community groups dedicated to preserving the legacy of ancestral places and the old Hawaiian ways.

Located deep in the hills of Ka'u is Wood Valley, where in 1980 His Holiness the Dalai Lama consecrated and dedicated the Nechung Dorje Drayang Ling Immutable Island of Melodious Sound as a Buddhist temple and retreat. Farther south, along the highway, are the small villages of Pahala and Naalehu. Farther still are the subdivisions of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, Hawaiian Ocean View Ranchos, Green Sand, Mark Twain and Discovery Harbor.

There are unique real estate opportunities in Ka'u for those who prefer life outside the mainstream. A variety of custom homes, off-grid homes, farms, ranch properties and ocean view lots are available in the Clark Realty Big Island listings.
