Rick grew up in Ohio, graduating from high school in 1964. After a three-year stint in the Army, he attended the University of Oregon, graduating first with a Bachelor’s degree, and then a Master’s degree in 1973.
Rick came to the Big Island in 1976 to teach at Waimea's Hawaii Preparatory Academy. He held that position until 1983, when he became a financial consultant for E.F. Hutton in Kona. After 18 years with E.F. Hutton followed by two years with Merrill Lynch, Rick opened his own practice in 2003 and has remained there since.
Rick became a real estate agent in 2010, affiliated with Clark Realty Corporation's Kona office.
Rick enjoys many outdoor activities, including triathlons, mountain biking, golf, scuba diving and skiing. For the past thirty years, Rick has been a active member of Rotary, serving as president of the Rotary Club of Kona in 1988-89. He is also currently a member of the Kona Elks Lodge.
