If you've been thinking about trying a 5K or 10K, there are a few opportunities coming up that deserve a special mention. On September 13, the "Happiest 5K on the Planet," the Color Run, is coming to Kona. Participants start the course wearing white but end the race having been doused with color in each "color zone." On September 20, the inaugural Ka'u Coffee Trail Run will be held at Ka'u Coffee Mill in Wood Valley. Celebrating Ka'u as a coffee producing region, participants will enjoy a trail that leads through coffee fields and macadamia nut groves. This run/walk offers a 5K, 10K and half-marathon. PATH (Peoples Advocacy for Trails Hawaii) also has several upcoming events, including a 5K/10K run on October 5 starting at Hale Halawai (the Ironman Expo) and the challenging 10K Run for the Dry Forest at Pu'u Wa'a Wa'a State Park on October 25. The Dry Forest Run also offers a 5K option.
