According to the Kona Coffee Festival website, the Big Island's first coffee plantations were established in the mid-1800's and received international recognition as early as 1873 at the World's Fair in Vienna. Today, there are about 3,500 acres of land in Kona dedicated to coffee production. There are several events scheduled this weekend to wrap up the 2015 Kona Coffee Cultural Festival, including tonight's Lantern Parade and tomorrow's Ho‘olaule‘a at Keauhou Shopping Center.
