Coastal Living Magazine is holding its fifth annual "Happiest Seaside Town" contest and Hilo is on the list!
Each year, the niche publication selects ten coastal towns in the United States and readers/happy residents are encouraged to vote online to support their town. This year, the voting is open until midnight (PST) on January 25th. Coming in as the 2nd most populated town on this year's list is our historic gem, Hilo, Hawaii (only "competitor" Portland, Maine has more residents). Readers are reminded of favorite outdoor spots such as Akaka Falls, Liliuokalani Gardens and Boiling Pots as well as the Pacific Tsunami Museum and the timeless Lyman Museum.
Factors involved in choosing the finalists include the magazine editor's assessment of each town's "coastal vibe" as well as measurable rankings such as Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, percentage of sunny days, vitality of beaches, crime ratings, average commute... Read More
