For now; however, most sections of the Park are closed and only local residents and essential personnel are allowed in certain areas in Puna. That leaves the rest of our beautiful island open for business and ready to welcome you if this is your time to come experience the wonder of it all.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Announces 2014 Stewardship at the Summit Volunteer Days 

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Volunteer Opportunity As members of the Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau and the Big Island Visitors Bureau, my husband and I regularly receive email updates about events around the Big Island. Today, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park announced a series of volunteer opportunities that will give Big Island residents and visitors a unique opportunity to contribute to the ongoing efforts to preserve the fragile ecosystem of the Park: Hawaii National Park, Hawai‘i – Resolve to protect Hawai‘i’s fragile ecosystem from invasive, non-native species by volunteering for “Stewardship at the Summit” programs throughout 2014. Stewardship at the Summit begins at 9 a.m. and ends at noon. With the Hottest View in Hawaii, Volcano House Reopens 

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park's Only Hotel Reopens Recently I received an email from Aqua Hotels and Resorts announcing that they were accepting reservations for Volcano House which was set to reopen, at least partially, on the weekend of March 22nd. We did not have a lot of time to spare but could not resist booking a room at this famed hotel as soon as possible. So, on Saturday March 23rd, we jumped in the car and headed to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park for our stay in a crater-view room at Volcano House. Volcano House has a storied history dating back to 1877, almost 40 years before the existence of the National Park, when the first western-style wooden structure opened as a hotel. Originally perched on the edge of Kilauea Crater, the original structure was later relocated across the street where it still stands today housing the Volcano Art Center.
