Big Island Goat Dozers: Green and Efficient Land Clearing If you are looking for a sustainable alternative for land clearing, here's the ticket! On a recent walk through my neighborhood, Puu Lani Ranch, I noticed some new temporary residents had moved in. The Big Island Goat Dozers were hard at work, in fact their slogan is "Will Work for Food." I stopped and spoke to the business owner Chris, who explained that he delivers the herd of goats (and "Patron," a Kona Nightingale guardian donkey), sets up portable electric fencing and checks the herd daily to monitor progress. Their web site explains the advantages of this green and efficient method of clearing: the brush is converted to organic fertilizer, goats can more easily clear difficult terrain with little negative impact and they are quieter than machinery.
