Historic Hawaii Foundation to Present “Preservation Essentials” Seminar on Hawaii Island in August

On Monday, August 9 at 9:00 am at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel’s Lloyd Sexton Gallery and on Tuesday, August 10 at 9:30 am at the North Hawaii Education & Research Center (NHERC), the Historic Hawai‘i Foundation will present an educational seminar for community members and professionals who are interested in learning more about “preserving the built and cultural sites that tell the stories of Hawaii’s history.”

Presenting at the event will be Kiersten Faulkner, the Executive Director of Historic Hawaii Foundation and Elaine Jackson-Retondo of the National Park Service.

Attendees will learn:

  • The definition of historic preservation and how it benefits communities
  • How to identify historic properties
  • The framework of federal, state and local preservation programs
  • Standards and guidelines for the treatment and stewardship of historic properties
  • Tools and resources for historic preservation
