Clark Realty Community Fund: Supporting the Chamber Orchestra of Kona

CRCCFEvery spring Clark Realty selects a group of Hawaii Island nonprofit organizations as grant recipients of our Clark Realty Corporation Community Fund (CRCCF.) Created in 2005 as a component fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation, the mission of CRCCF is to support local programs that promote the arts, healthy lifestyles, environmental awareness, and lifelong learning for Big Island residents.

This past May, six organizations across the island were selected from the many nominees we received from Clark agents. In the coming weeks we’ll introduce you to this year’s grantees, describing their various programs and the inspiring ways they are aiding others throughout our island community.

We invite our friends, family, clients, and fellow community members to participate with us in supporting these worthwhile groups. Each organization selected as a CRCCF grantee is a program with a proven track record of providing substantial positive benefit in its area of outreach. As you get to know our 2015 grantees, we hope you’ll consider joining with us to support these inspiring Hawaii Island programs by contributing to CRCCF 2015.

Here’s the second of our six grantees:

Meet the Chamber Orchestra of Kona

It is said that music is to the soul what words are to the mind. Members of the Chamber Orchestra of Kona, (COOK), are a group of talented volunteer musicians who put their heart and soul into performing live classical music and nurturing an interest in classical music.

Founded in 2003, COOK presents exciting music performances for Hawaii Island residents and visitors at little or no cost. Musicians of all ages learn about the preparation and presentation that goes into performing live while also providing a model for our youth who learn about the cooperation and discipline that music requires.

COOK members also foster music education, conducting outreach programs to Hawaii Island children, teaching students the basics of music. Future youth programs include a “Music for Minors” summer camp.

In recent years the Orchestra’s members have increased from 12 in 2012 to 55 in 2015, including seven aspiring musicians ages 10 to 17. A 501(c)3 non-profit organization that relies on donations, COOK is committed to preserving a heritage of classical and pop orchestral music for our island community with fun and eclectic concerts.

COOK’s next performance will be a “Rocktober” event October 18 at the Sheraton Kona Resort and Spa. During the one-night only show, they’ll perform songs from Led Zeppelin, Santana, the Eagles, Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Journey and others. (Purchase tickets here.)

The Chamber Orchestra of Kona was nominated by the real estate agent team of Julie Ching, R(B), and Dennis Yates, R(S), of our Keauhou office, who are also active members of COOK. Julie plays the contrabass clarinet with the orchestra and Dennis is the president of the COOK board of directors. If you’d like to join us in supporting the Chamber Orchestra of Kona, please consider making a donation today to CRCCF 2015. To learn more about CRCCF or to make a donation, please click here.
