When the first Hawaiians migrated north, South Point at the foot of Mauna Loa is likely the first land they saw from their double-hulled voyaging canoes. The Ka'u coastline is truly a majestic sight.

The Ka'u district, which is the southernmost area of the Big Island and the southernmost tip of the U.S, is still a real estate frontier. Farther south, along the highway, are the small villages of Pahala and Naalehu. Farther still are the subdivisions of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, Hawaiian Ocean View Ranchos, Green Sand, Mark Twain and Discovery Harbor.
