Each week, West Hawaii real estate industry professionals from local brokerages, escrow and lending companies gather to tour properties that are listed for sale and to share information about developments in lending requirements, state law and Big Island market trends.

On our last property tour (our “agent caravan”), my most recent listing, MLS 251183, was one of the homes open for the afternoon for both the public and my real estate colleagues to visit. Title Guaranty Hawaii helped us host a brunch for our visitors on the lanai of this lovely home.

Not far away, my colleague Cindy Whittemore was hosting an open house at another new listing, MLS 248836, a Lucky Bennett-designed home in Kalani Sunset. Brunch was provided by Old Republic Title & Escrow. We are very grateful for our agent caravan sponsors and co-hosts who help us share our listings with potential buyers and with other agents. Open house island style. Lucky we live Hawaii!

It was initially a mental challenge: “Can I do it?” You know, the heights thing. Flying on a line through a valley in Hawi?

It turned out to absolutely exhilarating, breathtakingly beautiful and more fun than words can describe.

With me were Dana Lewis, a Property Manager at Clark Realty, and Susan Hansen, who previously worked as the Manager of the Property Management Division at Clark.

You might refer to this “challenge” as an item on all our “bucket lists.” We started out on a Sunday morning with absolutely perfect weather. Clear skies and no rain predicted. A couple visiting from California joined us and our group of five was ready to “fly.”

As we were driven through the old growth forest up to the first line, the guides shared information about the area–the views were already great.

Ginger, Waterfalls and North Kohala Ocean Views

Amazing Views: A Hawi Waterfall

The first line, looking back, was really very easy, but the experienced guides made the first as exciting as the last. The views of waterfalls, valleys filled with ginger, the pools and the ocean were spectacular.

There were eight zip lines, a trek across one dry bridge and one suspension bridge. And everywhere you looked there was beauty.

The four hours literally flew by. Halfway through, we stopped to have some refreshments and share what a great time we were all having. The guides were very friendly and kept us laughing during the walks from line to line.

A Big Island WOW Experience

As we approached the last line–the longest with the greatest descent–we all wanted to say “It can’t end now.”

I shared my experience with some of the agents in the office on Monday and, sure enough, Dianne Doherty, a Realtor® at our Keauhou office, took some friends the next weekend to celebrate her birthday, zipping. Whenever we talk about the experience with others, it is hard to put into words. But, in one word: WOW!

Many visitors coming to the island of Hawaii are looking for a quaint and quiet vacation place or new home environment. This Island offers many places that are not only quaint and quiet but are filled with history that will enchant those who slow down and take the long look.

Holualoa is just such a place. Located at the 1,000 foot elevation, sometimes referred to as the “perfect” elevation, this area offers a village atmosphere with views of the ocean, Kailua-Kona town area and beyond.

The artisans that reside in and around Holualoa bring a very special feeling of retained Hawaiiana culture as well as the Asian influence of the early 1900′s. The buildings have been maintained and house thriving businesses that are well worth the three mile drive up Hualalai Road.

The people are friendly and are happy to share their experiences of the Kona Coast with you. A cup of Kona coffee and meal and a stroll through town will provide a lovely afternoon that will be hard to beat.

And maybe this is where you would like to spend a little more time, unwinding, relaxing and enjoying the ambiance. A stay at one of the bed and breakfasts might just be what you were looking for.

I certainly hope you find the time, because it will be well spent.
