Kahakai Estates Open House

Each week, West Hawaii real estate industry professionals from local brokerages, escrow and lending companies gather to tour properties that are listed for sale and to share information about developments in lending requirements, state law and Big Island market trends.

On our last property tour (our “agent caravan”), my most recent listing, MLS 251183, was one of the homes open for the afternoon for both the public and my real estate colleagues to visit. Title Guaranty Hawaii helped us host a brunch for our visitors on the lanai of this lovely home.

Not far away, my colleague Cindy Whittemore was hosting an open house at another new listing, MLS 248836, a Lucky Bennett-designed home in Kalani Sunset. Brunch was provided by Old Republic Title & Escrow. We are very grateful for our agent caravan sponsors and co-hosts who help us share our listings with potential buyers and with other agents. Open house island style. Lucky we live Hawaii!

Kohala Coast Camping at Kiholo Bay

Kiholo

Kiholo State Park Reserve Reopens after Cleanup

My family loves to camp, and we have done much of it at Kiholo Bay over the years. Over time, we were seeing the area change and, sadly, seeing the beach damaged. When we heard that Hawaii’s Department of Land and Natural Resources was undertaking a major cleanup of this beautiful coastal area, we were excited. The cleanup started on October 11, 2011 and, as Big Island Video News reported a few weeks ago in this post, Kiloho has re-opened.

Our first camping experience after the clean-up was over the New Year weekend. Kiholo looks beautiful!  The campsites are clearly marked and have specific parking spots. Now that driving on the beach is prohibited, you can enjoy the entire camp site area, allowing more space to set up horseshoes or to just sit and enjoy the view in peace. On our trip, it turned out that we knew everyone at the other campsites, which made the weekend even more fun. It’s hard to imagine that happening anywhere else other than the Big Island!

Camping Permits for Kiholo

Getting the required permit in order to camp is really easy. You can either go to the state park office or register online using the Hawaii State Parks Online Reservation System. With the convenient check-in and check-out time all the worries about finding space are gone.

More Good News for Kiholo Bay

In late December, 7 acres of Kiholo Bay land adjacent to Kiholo State Park was donated to the Nature Conservancy by Angus Mitchell, the 41-year-old son of the late Paul Mitchell. This donation ensures that this special Big Island land will remain undeveloped.  Like the Park, this land will be cared for by non-profit group Hui Aloha Kiholo. That’s great news. We are looking forward to many more Kiholo Bay camping trips!
